Let us talk about the safety measures that we should always consider while we are changing car batteries. It is not an easy task to change the battery but if you follow some of the steps mentioned below then you can change the battery easily and safely. Handling of car batteries may prove to be risky and hazardous as they contain sulfuric acid. So before touching the battery wear gloves, safety goggles and safe clothes. Now arm yourself carefully with voltmeter and test the battery. Set the voltmeter dials at a range of about 0 – 50 V, after that disconnect the battery.

Read the booklet and disconnect the battery. While doing this attach an alkaline battery of 9V to car PCM so that the battery does not lose its settings that are programmed. Car batteries have two terminals – positive (red lead) and negative (black lead). Connect the terminals accordingly with voltmeter. Car batteries’ level of voltage should be 12.6 – 12.8 range. This is how your battery is charged. Now connect the battery & start your car. If the battery shows a reading of 10V then you battery is fine. Check the level of fluid by disconnecting the battery again. If the electrode plates are immersed in electrolytic-fluid, then its fine, if not add distilled-water.
